US Open 2020 has been a roller coaster ride. Even without fans, the tournament has been amazing. Especially on the women’s side, there are a lot of emotions. For the first time in history, we have three mothers in the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam in Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, and Tsvetana Pironkova.

Victoria Azarenka reached the quarterfinal after beating Karolína Muchováin in three sets yesterday. In her on-court interview, she revealed how motherhood has changed her overall approach to a match.

Victoria Azarenka on being an example for her son

Azarenka wants to be an example for her son. As a result, she is trying to perform well and have a cool and calm persona on the court. Her son is watching her from home and she can’t falter.

“Sometimes it is like looking in the mirror with a face expressions and the actions that he does and I’m like, okay well, how about I change my own so I don’t see that from him. Because they are like sponges they take everything from us. Like even I’ll say one word and then he will repeat it,” she added.

“So I have to be careful and for me, that perspective changing into on court is I want to be –do my best because my son is watching me now. He understands more So I need to be a good example if I want him to grow up having a good behavior and not breaking the rackets.”
