The Canadian prodigy, Leylah Fernandez came under the spotlight after reaching the finals of US Open 2021. Despite not conquering the title, Fernandez won many hearts that day. Just about a month to go for the next season, Leylah has started her training in full-fledged motion.

The Canadian took to Instagram to share a video from her running parachute workout. The 19-year-old looked in great shape as she completed a sprint on the beach in Canada.

Leylah Fernandez resumes her training

The US Open 2021 finalist, Leylah Fernandez has started her training ahead of the 2022 season. Just recently, Fernandez posted a video of her workout session in Canada. Notably, she was performing the running parachute workout at a beach.

Sharing on her Instagram, she wrote, Happy Sunday IG! We are excited to be back training and working hard. With only 41 more days left this year, what are you looking forward to for 2022?!” It seems like the Canadian is pretty excited to compete on the tour after a remarkable 2021 season. 

In the comments section of this post, the official account of the Australian Open replied with an interesting caption. The comment read, “Looking forward to seeing you in Melbourne.” Chiefly, the Canadian’s best performance at the ‘Happy Slam’ came in 2021, reaching the third round of the competition.

Fernandez’s achievements in 2021

The 19-year old had quite an impressive WTA Tour this year. Fernandez registered her first WTA title at Monterrey Open in March. Moreover, she didn’t lose a single set throughout the whole tournament.

Another noteworthy achievement came at the US Open 2021. For the very first time in her career, she reached the finals of a Grand Slam event. In addition, on her path to the finals, she surpassed some of the finest players on the tour, like Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina, and Aryna Sabalenka.

Unfortunately, in the finals, she couldn’t portray her best effort. She fell short against the 18-years old, Emma Raducanu of Great Britain. However, she won millions of hearts through her spectacular performances at the Flushing Meadows. Fernandez last competed at the Indian Wells, exiting in the round of 16.
