Even though the former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has retired from UFC, he shares a good relationship with the boss Dana White. The latter has also praised ‘The Eagle’ in several of his interviews.
However, after his retirement, the Dagestan native wore the promoter’s cap and is working on his own MMA venture, Eagle FC. Interestingly, the UFC boss also claimed he would be happy to help ‘The Eagle’ with his promotion.
Recently, the former UFC champion sat in conversation with the Nelk Boys, where he revealed he would meet White regarding an Eagle FC event in Las Vegas. However, the UFC boss denies having any such conversation with the Russian fighter.

During the UFC 271 pre-fight press conference, a reporter asked White about the same. In response, the UFC kingpin said, “No, I haven’t. I mean, obviously, Khabib can walk and meet whenever he wants to. But we haven’t, no.”
Although ‘The Eagle’ has retired from the sport, he hasn’t left it completely. The 33-year-old trains his cousins and teams for their MMA careers. Also, he has his own promotion now, which has already garnered a lot of attention from the fights fan.
Eagle FC has signed some of the notable names from the fight game and also had its first event on American soil last month. The promotion is rapidly gaining a fan base and while ‘The Eagle’ is back in the fight business, many are speculating about his return to the octagon.
Why did Khabib Nurmagomedov retire, and will he return?
After his last successful title defense in 2020, the Russian star hung his gloves forever with an undefeated 29-0 record under his name. This came after his father and coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s death in 2020 months before Khabib’s last fight.

Abdulmanap has been coaching ‘The Eagle’ since childhood and has been with him throughout his career. However, after his death, Khabib promised his mother that he won’t continue fighting without his father on the side.
Hence, the former UFC champion retired from the sport. Although UFC and many other promotions have offered the Dagestan native a lucrative sum of money to return to fighting, ‘The Eagle’ stands for the promise he made to his mother.
