World Number four Naomi Osaka and Marta Kostyuk played a marathon match at the third round of the US Open. The battle ended in the favor of 4th seeded Osaka. Keeping her nerves till the end, Naomi was able to avoid being a major upset in the US Open 2020. Facing Kostyuk, Naomi had to play her best tennis to emerge victorious against the Ukrainian.

 

The three-set match which went on for around 3 hours, left the players exhausted beyond measure. The scoreline reads 6-3 6-7 6-2 in favor of Osaka. Naomi Osaka while on the post-match press conference expressed her exhaustion from the match.

“I don’t know if this qualifies as an emergency but I feel like I’m going to pass out.”

Going favorites into the match, Naomi was confident of a win. Spectators around the globe thought it’d be a cakewalk for her. However, the 18-year-old had other intentions. She fought till the very end and pushed Naomi to win each point. Her service and forehand being widely appreciated, clearly, Kostyuk is a star of tomorrow. Even Naomi had to accept her presence in the court.

Two-time Grand Slam Champion from Japan Osaka had to fight until the end.  After the match, Naomi was not shy to express her opponent’s dominance. She went up to anticipate how lethal Kostyuk would be after a few years of professional tennis.

She’s very good, I’m kind of scared of how she’s going to be in the future.

Osaka was repeatedly seen murmuring on her match specifically after she lost an easy point. When asked about that at the post-match conference, she confessed to cursing herself.

Naomi Osaka must be careful

After Garbine Muguruza‘s exit yesterday, it seemed another upset was waiting at the US Open 2020. However, Naomi pulled off a spectacular show in the final set to own the match in her pocket.

Last Sunday, Naomi Osaka had to pull out of the Finals of the Western and Southern Open owing to a hamstring injury.
