Minnesota Timberwolves Center Karl-Anthony Towns urged people to understand the present situation after revealing that the Coronavirus has infected his mother.
The two-time NBA All-Star took to Instagram to reveal his mother Jacqueline Cruz’s condition. His video on the social media website revealed that his mother is in a coma and is surviving on a ventilator.
“I think it is important that everyone understands the severity of what’s happening in the world right now- the coronavirus,” Towns said in the video.

“This disease needs not to be taken lightly. Please protect your families, your loved ones, your friends, yourself. Practice social distancing. Please don’t be in places with a lot of people. This disease is deadly. We’re going to keep fighting.”
Towns has been talking to his mother and communicating with the doctors. Unfortunately, he said that his mother’s conditioning is worsening.

“Her lungs were getting worse, and she was having trouble breathing,” Towns said. “They were just explaining to me she had to be put on a ventilator. She was getting worse, and she was confused by everything and I’m trying to talk to her about everything, encouraging her to stay positive. I talked through everything with her.”
Karl-Anthony Towns hopes his story is a message for others
As Towns narrated his story, he hoped it would serve as an example for others to be more sensible during these tough times.
“Sharing my story in the hopes that everyone stays at home! We need more equipment and we need to help those medical personnel on the front lines,” the caption to Towns’ video on Instagram read. “Thank you to the medical staff who are helping my mom. You are all the true heroes! Praying for all of us at this difficult time.”

Towns believes that his mother will make it past the tough situation. “My mother, she’s the strongest woman I know and I know she’ll beat this,” Towns said. “We’re going to rejoice when she does.”
