Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James took to Instagram to raise his concern over the recent incident where a black man in the custody of four policemen in Minneapolis died.

A video surfaced of a policeman suffocating the victim, George Floyd, to death. James referred to San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protest a few years ago. In 2016, Kaepernick refused to stand up to the national anthem, saying he wouldn’t stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.

James posted a photo of Kaepernick alongside the Minneapolis policeman, suggesting it as the reason why the quarterback protested. James was not the only one who recalled Kaepernick’s protests. A few others had similar posts on social media following Tuesday’s incident.

A few other NBA personalities apart from LeBron James raised concerns

George Floyd, the victim in Tuesday’s incident, seemed to be a close friend of the former basketball player Stephen Jackson. Jackson referred to him as a “brother” and a “twin”.

In one of his Instagram posts, he wrote: “Twin. I promise I won’t let this BS ride. Already talked to @shaunking. Anybody from Houston/Cuney Homes u know this was my brother. Can’t let this ride. All hands on deck. Rest Easy Twin”

“Where we from not many make it out but my Twin was happy I did. I’m gonna continue to make u proud fam. It makes me so angry that after all the things u been through when u get to your best self that they take u out like this. …Rest Easy Twin,” he wrote in another post.

Current Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert was also among those reacting to Tuesday’s horrific incident.

“If you let your coworker do that to another human being without trying to stop him or talk to him out of it, you are as guilty as he is,” he tweeted.
