The DP World Tour is to lose another valuable player! After joining LIV Golf from its inaugural event, the Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia has revealed his intention to resign from the European Tour!

“My resignation is not official,” the 42-year-old reportedly to a reputed Spanish news media. “But I’m going to make it effective,” he added. Garcia explained why he would want to resign from the DP World Tour, “I like to play where they want me and on the European Tour right now, I don’t feel loved.” 

Following the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour (formerly named the European Tour) announced its decision to suspend its players from its events for playing in the league. The organization also imposed a £100,000 fine on its 16 players. 

According to a fellow European Tour player, the golfer wasn’t happy with the Tour’s decision. “Sergio flew off the handle, shouting, ‘this Tour is s**t, you’re all f***ed,'” the golfer who didn’t want to reveal his name said.

Sergio Garcia took a dig at the DP World Tour! 

“What they are doing is a shame,” Sergio Garcia reportedly stated. “Because the European Tour is going to become the fifth in the world.”

Nobody knows which Tours he thinks the first four Tours are. However, Golf Monthly estimated that he might have meant the DP World falls after the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, the Asian Tour, and the Korn Ferry Tour. 

Turned professional in 1999, the Spaniard has been one of the biggest assets of the European Tour. He has won more than 30 championship titles worldwide, including the 2017 Masters Tournament. Furthermore, the Tour will likely lose a great player for the upcoming Ryder Cup! 

The record point scorer to leave the Ryder Cup!

The 2023 US Ryder Cup captain has revealed that the LIV Golf players will not be eligible to play in the upcoming competition. Team Europe hasn’t announced anything regarding the matter. However, many speculate that the team will decide the same as they consider the league their rival too. 

However, with the 1-time major champion resigning from the Tour, the team will likely lose the all-time record points scorer in the Ryder Cup. So far, Garcia has represented Team Europe 10 times throughout his career, from 1999 to 2020, without missing once. His Ryder Cup record is 25-13-7.
