Among the impressive names that broke away from the PGA Tour and joined hands with LIV Golf last year was Anirban Lahiri. The two-time European Tour winner now completes one year of playing on the Saudi circuit and has enjoyed quite a good run. However, all was not as great 52 weeks ago!
As he recently revealed, it was not an easy decision for the Indian-born golfer to break away from the traditional tour. Many reasons stood in his path to joining LIV, and now that he’s finally settled in and feels at home, he spills the beans on some such hidden secrets and his anxious state of mind while making the jump!

Now that he has completed a successful year on the LIV Golf, looking back, Lahiri is happy with his productive year. However, dark clouds still loom over the positions he was in and what he went through right before his switch to the Saudi Tour. And a lot of it had to do with his family.
Lahiri, at the time, was going through a tough personal phase and had a hard time adjusting to his new league. Speaking about his initial experience, he says, “Personally, there were some big changes … we shifted from the U.S., and then we lost my mum-in-law. There was so much anxiety when I made the move.” The LIV Golf star now lives in Dubai with his family.
The Indian golfer further revealed that he was unsure about the new league and its possibilities, and he also didn’t know anyone besides Bryson DeChambeau. He continues, “We did not fully know what LIV Golf was going to offer, and I became part of a team where, apart from Bryson, I did not know my teammates that well.”
The move to the Saudi Tour seems like a total shot in the dark for Anirban—a shot that landed on the right spot, though. He trusted his instincts, and his leap of faith had paid off with how successful he has been in the league!

Anirban Lahiri’s impressive finishes in the LIV events
Lahiri joined LIV in August 2022 and became part of Crushers GC. Last year, he finished in a three-way tie for first place at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston with Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann. However, luck didn’t favor him that Sunday, and he lost the playoff to DJ and ended up with the second spot.
This season, Lahiri’s best result came at the Bedminster event, where, following an incredible 7-under par round 2, he finished second on Sunday, losing the title to Cameron Smith. Despite that, he took home a $2.25 million check and also earned a share of $375,000 in the team event. He also had another runner-up at the Adelaide event this season.

The LIV star will next take to the course at LIV Golf Chicago at Rich Harvest Farms on Sept. 22; perhaps there he will be able to grab a much-coveted win on the Saudi Series.
