Perhaps this was what Sebastian Vettel wanted all along – to get out of Q1 and into Q2 for once! The German driver crossed the line in Q1 on Saturday’s Qualifying. That timing took him out of the bottom 5 and placed him on P13. Talking to his engineer over the radio, Vettel asked, “Did we go through or not?”. To which the response was “Yes, we did”. Vettel almost instantly expressed nonchalance, even though he has had not much luck lately in Qualifying.

He was, however, a little less off the pace in Q2. Vettel finished in P14 with a lap time of 1:17:006, and so was knocked out. Spending a lot of the time in and around the elimination zone, Vettel’s efforts were for naught. So, it represents a challenge for the German and will have it all to do in the Main Race tomorrow. But this will represent in some way, a marked improvement from their previous Qualifying sessions.
Big Day For Sebastian Vettel Tomorrow
Ferrari is set to race in their 1000th Grand Prix tomorrow. And so, the onus on both Leclerc and Vettel would be to be among the points at the very least. They will also have a limited number of supporters in the grandstands tomorrow, cheering for them. The tifosi will definitely be expecting Top 10 finishes for both the Ferrari drivers.
A silver lining for Vettel however, will be his ability to get out of the bottom half and race consistently to finish in the midfield places. In the Spanish GP qualifying, he had been knocked out in Q2 and had to start lower in P11. But on that occasion, a strong showing meant that he eventually finished the main race in P7.

Post the Qualifying session, Vettel did admit that coming into Mugello the car was starting to feel a bit better. In the following interview with the media, he was heard saying, “It should be a little bit better [tomorrow] but it’s hard to say now. For sure we will try everything we can”. Even that, sounds like a bit of optimism from Vettel. He would hope that with his all skill and experience, he can deliver the best result possible for Ferrari fans all over the world.
