Saturday night saw another NBA star, Christian Wood of Detroit Pistons getting a positive test for Coronavirus. Christian Wood became the third player in NBA after Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert and Denvon Mitchell to join this ill-famed list. The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first to report this news.

Charania also confirmed that Wood is doing well and has not shown any such symptoms till now.
Notably, the Detriot Pistons played the Utah Jazz in Detroit at Little Caesars Arena last Saturday. After playing Jazz so recently, all Pistons players have been under self-quarantine and while in that state, Wood was tested. Not to forget that Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert’s positive test was the spark that initiated the chain of reactions which ultimately led to the suspension of this NBA season.
Amid this chaos in NBA, Pistons acted swiftly and released the statement. They said the player is “under the care of team medical staff and in self-isolation”. The test result came back Saturday, the team said. “The health and safety of our players, our organization, those throughout our league, and all those potentially impacted by this situation is paramount,” the statement read.
Christian Wood Breathrough Season in Jeopardy
Christian Wood was definitely having a tremendous season, till now. This was clearly a breakthrough for the Wood who barely made the team at first glance. But with his great performances, he clearly marked an impact and was one of the best for Pistons until now.
In the game against Gobert and the Jazz, he scored 30 points and added 11 rebounds. Two games later against the Philadelphia 76ers, he dropped 32 points and seven rebounds. Most likely after he had already contracted the virus by then.
On that Saturday night match, Wood was guarding Gobert. Which has led to the speculation of how Rudy Gobert has spread coronavirus in and out of NBA. First, it was his teammate Denvon Mitchell and now Christian Wood. Not to forget, that a kid has also tested positive who came in contact with Rudy during the game. But during all this chaos, we should not jump into any conclusions and blame Rudy for all of it. Because it’s also entirely possible that both players contracted it elsewhere.
Detroit Pistons staff in question!!
Amid this, responsibilities and ignorance of Detroit Piston’s staff is also in question. Reportedly, Christian Wood told Pistons staff that he is experiencing flu-like symptoms before the game against 76ers. This was confirmed by Chris Mannix who is a Senior Writer of Sports Illustrated.

If this report is true, then Pistons have a lot to answer for. As they have put many innocent lives in danger by this decision. Coronavirus could have contacted any rival player, coach, staff or even a regular fan in the arena.
We should remember that it’s a highly contagious disease that can be easily passed from person to person. And behavior patterns like this can cause bigger mayhem.
