Claressa Shields on fighting in the UFC

The undisputed Middleweight champion has had her sights set on making a splash into the mainstream media. Her accolades in the ring as a female boxer put her in an elite league of her own. She receives very little resistance in terms of her claim of the ‘Greatest Woman of all Time’ i.e. GWOAT.

“Yeah, I definitely see myself getting into the octagon, but now for reasons that I want to fight in the octagon. I want to be known as the best woman fighter ever! Being the greatest woman in boxing is cool, but I hate for people to say that Amanda Nunes fight better than me.”

Claressa is arguably one of the most decorated and dominant forces in the sport of boxing. She believes that a fight with Nunes will be the right move for her career going forward.

“No, you do MMA better than me, but if we were to take away her kicking and her elbows and we to just go left and right, I will win. MMA fighters make it seem like she can just come over to boxing and beat you. They got to be smoking some kinda dope or something. That’s like saying I can go over to MMA without training and beat her.”

“That’s a damn lie!”

Claressa Shields remains cogent of the fact that ‘The Lioness’ has displayed nothing but sheer dominance in the cage. The two-division UFC champion has accrued some of the most notable names onto her resume that women’s MMA has to offer. However, Shields believes that under the right circumstances she can reign supreme.

“I gotta train, I gotta get some kinds of experience. I have to get some fights, you can’t just go over there and act like the kicking and elbowing and the arm bars don’t matter. It matters in MMA, in boxing it doesn’t. They can say she’s the greatest woman of all time in MMA, but when it comes to ‘Oh she has better hands than any woman fighter I’ve ever seen’, that’s a damn lie.”

Chiefly, if the fight were to materialize, women’s combat sports would get a massive boost in terms of profile. The two women have been on record demanding for a mega-crossover bout in either of their respective sports. Fans look forward to the possibility of the fight being announced.
