Anthony Joshua Blames Lack of Experience For the Loss: Andy Ruiz Should Not Beat Me Twice

Andy Ruiz Jr shocked the world when he got his hands raised against the former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua. Now in the most anticipated rematch of the year, Ruiz will step into the ring again to repeat the history and to prove that the first win was no fluke. However, Anthony Joshua would certainly disagree with that notion.

In a recent interview when asked about whether Ruiz will be able to repeat his performance in the rematch, Joshua said:

“Andy Ruiz is good, but I don’t think he should beat me twice. That is just my opinion. That’s what I mean, I could still win a round after getting knocked down heavily. That should give me a little bit of confidence going into the fight.”

In the first fight, Joshua was winning the early rounds. Two out of three judges gave the first 3 rounds to Joshua, while one judge gave four rounds to Joshua. Even after getting knocked down Joshua came back into the fight, arguably winning a round. However, it was a lack of experience that cost Joshua the fight.

“There was pressure in the training preparation. I had no pressure in this training camp. I could take 5 days off and come back still fresh. The issue I faced in the last training camp is just down to lack of experience. Even though it was a high level, we were still quite inexperienced because of how fast we have come through the heavyweight division.”

There have been a lot of speculations about what is next for Joshua if he loses to Ruiz in the rematch. Some of the boxing Pundits have even predicted Joshua to retire if he fails to regain his title on December 7th. However, Joshua is not bothered about that at all as he believes the outcome against Andy Ruiz Jr will not dictate his legacy.

“It’s not about this one night. it’s about what I want to make of it. it is about no one. It is just about me. This is my legacy. No one sitting in his office can dictate what my legacy in my opinion. I just know how tough this game is and I know how much I got to give it to it. When it is all said and done, December 7 does not end, but when it is all said and done and I hang up my gloves that’s when we can have the debate about my legacy. As for now, this is just a journey.”

The outcome of the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr is going to change the landscape of the heavyweight division for sure. With Tyson Fury fighting Deontay Wilder in a rematch soon, the winner of Ruiz vs Joshua 2 might fight the winner of Wilder vs Fury 2 to determine the undisputed champion in the heavyweight division.
