Because of their status, the duo are set to enter next season unsure of what the future holds for them. Their situation exemplifies the plague that has gripped the RB position for years now. Meanwhile, Stephen A. Smith has stepped up to talk about the problem the NFL has put the RBs in.

Following the developments surrounding the two among the many RBs experiencing a similar situation at some point in their career. In light of the circumstances, the latest monologue from the ESPN analyst gives many fans and stars something to think about.

Stephen A. Smith lambasts the NFL

Smith comes out in defense of the Raiders and Giants men, and the RB position in totality. His hard-hitting words aimed at the NFL, as well as the NFLPA, might finally bring the proclivity to pass over the RBs of the league to the forefront. On his youtube channel, the ESPN man shared a clip almost 5 minutes long sharing the state of affairs for the position.

The analyst states, “Running backs are getting screwed over by the National Football League.” He’d go on to add, “At some point in time what the National Football League does is look at your birth certificate. And they say hell you’re 27-28 years old that ain’t gonna work for us. And so because of that, you’re marginalized and essentially uh pushed out.”

Smith goes on to reflect on Barkley and Jacobs and adds, “What makes it even worse is……Saquon Barkley to the New York Giants or Josh Jacobs to the…..Las Vegas Raiders who are both looking for New Deals. Neither was able to reach a long-term deal with their respective franchises the Giants and the Raiders.” Following the failed development of both RBs, Smith talks about one of the best RBs in the league and how he has been held out from getting a big contract.

ESPN’s Smith points to Derrick Henry

Smith goes on to point at some of the numbers from last season with respect to scrimmage yards. He points to 7 players from the top 9 in the category of scrimmage yards as being an RB. He built up to this with his player highlight for Derrick Henry and how little he’s paid in the league. Smith speaks about Henry, “This is a man that is universally recognized as arguably the best in the game. He has been nothing short of sensational in his time with it as a Tennessee Titan.”

He demarcates a clear difference in terms of the pay standards between RBs and QBs. Smith talks about, “We see quarterbacks get paid 200 million DeShaun Watson got 230 million we see defensive players making some money. Derrick Henry has made a grand total of 46 million dollars in seven NFL seasons. Here’s a guy who’s rushed for 8,334-35 yards and has scored a total of 81 career touchdowns.” As Smith finally breaks the RB story into the mainstream with his words on his youtube channel. It might inspire a revolution as to the measures NFL and the RBs as a whole may take in their interest.
