Expertise and precision in language are certainly not the answer. But for a pugilist whose reach falls short of the average 71 inches, Gervonta The Tank Davis has won each bout in his career. On top of that, out of the twenty-seven matches he has fought, twenty-five were knockout wins.

Gervonta The Tank Davis

Assuring a staggering 93% surety to win a fight by knockout, the Baltimore native stands tenth in the list of pound-for-pound active boxers. In addition, Davis became the world champion in three different weight divisions – WBA’s (Regular) Lightweight, (Regular) Super Lightweight, (Super) Super Featherweight, and IBF’s (Super) Featherweight.

He defended his WBA (Regular) Lightweight title by thwarting WBA Interim Lightweight champion Rolando Romero’s challenge. The fight at New York city’s Barclays Center stopped when Davis knocked out the challenger.

Fight Probables

Since May, talks on the Tank’s next move have been going incessantly. A probability inching towards the real world is a face-off against fellow American Ryan Garcia. In 2021, the orthodox boxer from Victorville, California, won WBC Interim Lightweight. However, the negotiations on their match seem to have hit a roadblock over viewing rights.

There are other names in circulation. The undisputed Lightweight champion Devin Haney is free after stopping George Kambosos Jr. at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Joseph JoJo Pedroza Diaz Jr., beaten by Haney in December 2021, stands next in line, but two consecutive losses cast doubt. Finally, the man who had beaten Vasily Lomachenko is another possibility. Teofimo Lopez will meet Jose Pedraza in December this year.

The Tank Off Tracks

A desire to continue the suspense got on Gervonta to denounce any suggestions that don’t warrant his deference. A recent tweet speculating a fight with Mexican-American Abner Mares riled up the Tank to take a swing, berating them for not verifying the news properly. But it was what Tank wrote that had the Twitterati jumping over. The grammatically incorrect sentence made Davis the bu*t of their jokes.

Some were quick to catch the errors.

A die-hard fan pours his heart out.

The omnipresent cynics.

Finally, someone with a clout rolls a dice.

Maybe the urge to denounce weighed high for Tank to ignore the calls of grammatical propriety. But whoever may get picked for a fight against Gervonta Davis, the fans are reassured of an exciting and thrilling contest that one can expect from his stable.
