Colin Kaepernick first started this practice of kneeling during the national anthem in the 2016 NFL preseason. At that time, Kaepernick was playing for San Francisco 49ers.
Talking to Houston Chronicle, Bill O’Brien stated he would be kneeling during the national anthem. He added that the players have a right to protest. O’Brien added that they have the right to be heard.
“Yeah, I’ll take a knee. I’m all for it,” Bill O’Brien told the Houston Chronicle.

O’Brien and co-owner Cal McNair along with several players had attended George Floyd’s funeral.
