Is Aaron Boone right to defend the call on Dominguez, or is Cashman to blame for Yankees' woes?

It’s no secret that Jasson Dominguez is one of the New York Yankees’ top prospects. Nicknamed “The Martian” for his speed and power—the Yanks hold him close to heart. No really, so close to heart, that they are not willing to let him step into the MLB diamond, despite his abilities! He crushed four home runs in eight games when he made his debut last year in the big league. And when he is healthy, he crushes it in the minor league.

So you’d think Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman would want Jasson Dominguez in the lineup. And it’s not like anyone would hold it against them or they would be barred from the decree for playing the 21-year-old at the top league. But even though clubs were allowed to expand the roster to 28—Dominguez wasn’t promoted! Fans are already not thrilled with the decisions that Cashman seems to be making. However, Boone was recently seen defending Cashman’s decision not to have Jasson Dominguez in the lineup!

The confusing case of the Yanks and Jasson Dominguez

Boone defended the decision to keep their top prospect in the minors–stating that it’s all about good timing and ensuring that when Dominguez makes a comeback, he plays every day. “When he comes up here, you’re going to want to play him every day,” Boone explained. He further said, “So, he’ll continue to remain in that conversation. Feel like he’s over the last couple of weeks starting to play well, coming back from the oblique injury. Tough call right now but it doesn’t mean that doesn’t change, in a couple of days, in a week, in two weeks — whatever it is. But it’s important for him to continue to play right now.”

The entire saga between the Yankees and Dominguez is nothing short of confusing. Sure, Dominguez has only recently recovered from an oblique injury, but he’s bounced back to his form brilliantly. His records at Triple-A are a testament to it, with an impressive .306 batting average, five home runs, 18 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases all in just 37 games. So, the excuse for his injury doesn’t quite sit well with the fans. Dominguez has proven his worth multiple times and fans want him in the lineup—so Boone and Cashman, not getting him, are leaving everyone scratching their heads. And that’s not even the end of the story!

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Boone right to defend the call on Dominguez, or is Cashman to blame for Yankees' woes?

Have an interesting take?

The most puzzling factor of all is the team’s decision to stick with Alex Verdugo. The left-fielder since May has been anything but underwhelming, slugging with just .338 with seven home runs over 101 games! While he sure does bring some value on the defense side, his offense game is anything but desired. Moreover, Verdugo is all set to go free-agent soon, so Yanks doesn’t have commitment issues, which only adds more to the confusion.

Brian Cashman is taking on some serious heat from the Yankees fans for his recent comments regarding Jasson Dominguez. The Yankees’ owner, according to beat writer Gary Phillips, stated,There’s currently no lane” for Dominguez in the big leagues, but added, “It’s nice to know he’s there.” Well, seriously? No lane for the next big potential star of the Yankees? A player who has shown his caliber in the minors and even the majors.

Fans are baffled with Cashman and have flooded the socials with brutal comments. One fan blasted, “Cashman will never swallow his pride and admit he was wrong. He’s been doing for years, we shouldn’t be surprised. Embarrassing.”

Juan Soto and Judge are unboundedly doing their best, and Dominguez would only help the team ace further. So, according to most fans, it makes no sense to play the star prospect in the minors. A fan commented, “He’ll be the third-best player on the team the moment he’s called up. I am so done with Boone and Cashman. Disgusting.” This also comes as a shock because other teams like the Orioles have gone with Jackson Holliday and the Reds with Elly De La Cruz–clearly making room for their top prospect. So the question is why Dominguez, being a top prospect, is not given the chance.

Cashman’s comments are just making things worse, complicating their future with a player who could be the next big thing. Given Juan Soto is on the verge of his contract getting over, this doesn’t seem to be the time to choose such battles. What do you think about the entire ordeal? Let us know.
