Microsoft’s announcement of shutting down Mixer was a pretty abrupt one, and it came as a surprise to a lot of streamers. Many of them got the news while streaming on the platform, and it has left them angry, sad, and definitely hopeless. The reason is that not everyone had it big like Ninja or Shroud.

Not everyone had the option of going home with tens of millions of dollars for their time at Mixer. A lot of these small-time streamers had built their viewer base and community on Mixer. It remains to be seen if they will be able to build a similar community elsewhere.

There is always a possibility that these streamers will be lost in the sea of streamers at Twitch. With Mixer gone, a lot of streamers are left to consider making a change to other streaming platforms.

Xbox will allow streamers to choose a platform of their choice to natively stream on, like Mixer

Mixer and Xbox are both products of Microsoft. Therefore players on Xbox could directly stream their gameplay on Mixer from the Xbox dashboard. This would not even require them to open the app. But with Mixer gone, will Xbox be open to making other streaming platforms available for native streaming?

A Mixer streamer called “AngryJunglist” posted a tweet asking this question to Xbox head Phil Spencer. Spencer’s response suggests that it might be a possibility.

Facebook Gaming and Project xCloud

The reason Microsoft shut down MIxer and moved to Facebook Gaming is that it needed a platform big enough to launch its streaming service, xCloud. Mixer failed to achieve that reach even after signing up Twitch stars like Ninja and Shroud. The reach that Facebook Gaming has beats that of Mixer by a large margin which is just what they needed.

Spencer’s reply suggests that Xbox will be making other streaming platforms available for native streaming like Mixer. This might be a preparation phase before xCloud hits the market.
