Xbox Series S will not support Direct X- Ray Tracing on DMC 5 Special Addition

In a recent tweet, devs updated the fans about the Special Edition’s performance in Microsoft’s next-gen consoles:

The title comes with a lot of enhancements on the Series X/S. It offers high frame rates up to 120f fps, enhanced 3D audio, reduced loading times, the Legendary Dark Knight difficulty, Turbo Mode and playable Vergil on both consoles.

However, there are certain features limited to the Xbox Series X that include 4K resolution and DirectX RayTracing.

“While ray tracing will be available as a downloadable title update on the Xbox Series X, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition will not support ray tracing on the Xbox Series S.”

The Xbox Series X and the PS5 are very similar, as both offer high-end specifications. As a result, other factors like subscription services and exclusive titles might decide the fate of these consoles. However, the PS5 digital edition and the Xbox Series S have stark differences, even in their specifications. The Series S and the PS5 digital edition cost $299 and $399, respectively.

Following Capcom’s announcement, a lot of fans are skeptical of the Xbox Series S’s performance. Ray tracing, in simple words, makes light in video games behave like it does in actual life. It enhances realism in the games and DMC 5 fans would have loved it on their Series S.

Games from other developers like Ubisoft will support DirectX RayTracing on Microsoft’s cheaper next-gen console. Therefore, it was Capcom’s choice to not include the feature and not a technical shortcoming of the console itself.

Certainly, the Xbox Series S is no match for the potential of the PS5 and Series X. However, Devil May Cry 5 is a huge title and a lot of next-gen fans were hyped about it. If other developers follow Capcom’s lead,  the Xbox Series S users might miss out on a lot of additional features in their favorite titles.
