The last 2 days have been absolutely phenomenal for Xbox fans. First, a major leak forced Xbox to announce the Xbox Series S. Surprisingly, the very next day, Microsoft announced the price and the launch date for Xbox Series X as well. But Xbox’s biggest rival Sony is yet to make a move.

The Xbox Series S announcement wasn’t surprising, but it definitely handed Xbox an edge over PlayStation. Now that its specifications are also known, it seems the supposedly ‘less-powerful’ Series S’ processor is better than the PS5.

Xbox Series S has a slightly better CPU than PlayStation 5

The Xbox Series S boasts of a CPU architecture similar to the Series X. But it has a slightly lower clock speed of 3.6 GHz. Although, the AMD Zen 2 8-core chipset still manages to edge out the PlayStation 5.

Sony’s flagship console houses the same AMD Zen 2 8-core chipset but with a maximum clock speed of 3.5 GHz. One may think that the 0.1 GHz difference is utterly negligible.

While that may be correct, it still doesn’t change the fact that a ‘less-powerful’ console has seemingly better specifications than a flagship console.

The Series S lags behind in terms of its SSD size, which stands at 512 GB compared to the PS5’s 825 GB. It also has a significantly lower GPU performance than Sony’s flagship. Nevertheless, it still has great computing prowess and outperforms the PS5 in that aspect.

Additionally, the $299 price makes it an even better deal. Sony is yet to reveal the price for its next-gen console, which will definitely be a lot more than $299.

This is because it directly competes with the $499 priced Xbox Series X. Moreover, reports have also suggested that the PS5 will be priced higher than the Series X, which puts Sony in a disadvantageous position yet again.

PlayStation fans may still argue that Sony has better AAA exclusives lined up. But Microsoft has an answer for that too, as they announced that EA Play will now be a part of the Xbox Game Pass, at no additional cost.

Xbox has made its move, and now all eyes are on Sony. They need to have some exciting announcements if they are to go toe-to-toe against Xbox.
