The year 2020 is turning into a great one for Xbox fans all over the world. Not only has the company aced it with its next-gen Series X and S, but has also possibly gotten an upper-hand over rivals, Sony. The direction that Phil Spencer given the company is phenomenal. There have been some great achievements for the company recently and Xbox has decided to boast about it.

Xbox’s recent achievements are noteworthy

In a recent post on the official blog, Aaron Greenberg lists down some of the biggest achievements of the company in recent times. Take a look at them below:

  • 15 Xbox Game Studios games launched to-date* (10 of which are brand new titles) and many more to come, a record for Xbox.
  • 66 billion hours played by our fans and counting, the most ever year-to-date for Xbox Game Studios titles.
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator, our longest running franchise, returned with an overall Metacritic score of 92, a top-rated PC game this year.
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps was the highest-rated Xbox game we launched this year with an average Metacritic score of 90.
  • Grounded, a new release from Obsidian, quickly exceeded more than 1 million players, while Sea of Thieves has now surpassed 15 million players to date.
  • Wasteland 3 not only was a fan-favorite and previously won the award for best RPG at gamescom, it also had an average Metacritic score of 86.
  • In July at the Xbox Games Showcase we announced 5 new titles from Xbox Game Studios.

If that isn’t enough, there are some other stats mentioned in the blog as well. Microsoft Flight Simulator has logged in more than a billion virtual miles. This is more than all the real-life flight miles from 2019.

Minecraft Dungeons has had over 6.9 million co-op players in the last two months, and Grounded players have squashed around 500 million insects.

Xbox has 5 unannounced titles according to Aaron Greenberg

All these achievements highlight the amount of work the Xbox team has put in to reach this level. Moreover, with Microsoft’s Bethesda acquisition, there will be more such success to share in the future. Aaron Greenberg also announced this on Twitter,

“Ten new titles, critical acclaim, exceptional engagement, 5 new games announced and many more unannounced titles in the works mark a record year for Xbox Game Studios. All this before the launch of a new generation and Bethesda joining Team Xbox!”

The interesting thing to note here is that he mentions ‘five unannounced games.’ This could be anything under the sun, considering Microsoft just strong-armed itself by acquiring a bunch of new studios.

Xbox flexing its muscles also proves that PlayStation needs to buckle up. Microsoft is definitely not messing around with its Xbox Game Pass and xCloud services. The console war just got even more exciting and all that remains to see now is who comes out on top.
