Speaking at the WrestleMania post-show press conference, The Underdog from the Underground explained at length the storytelling that went into their storyline. He not only acknowledged their backstory to be one of the best but also spoke highly of it while comparing it with an American crime drama series.

He said, “I do think it transcended the classical wrestling storyline. It’s a glimpse into, because of its effectiveness, it could be a glimpse of what storylines going forward, if not achieve, will at least aspire to, in my opinion.”
Following this, he mentioned the evolution of television shows from their golden age in the 2000s to the inclusion of HBO and other stuff like that. He specifically talked about the more complex and layered characters that have come into the world.
“To do this story, if I may be so bold to offer a comparison, it’s almost like the Sopranos. It is, to WWE, what the Sopranos was to television. If I may be so bold to make that comparison,” the Honorary Uce added.
The 38-year-old straight away labeled his storyline a revolutionary one while comparing it with one of the most influential television series of all time which has been credited for starting a second Golden Age of Television. However, while giving this answer, Sami Zayn also pointed out how no one else would fit this storyline other than those who were a part of it.

And then it had to be The Prizefighter on the other side, with whom he shared a true 20-year-old friendship. Zayn feels it’s the bleeding of reality into the fictional story that turned into a masterpiece. And fans wouldn’t deny that as well.
