American professional basketball player Brittney Griner has been going through a tough time lately. The WNBA star was detained at a Moscow airport in February on her way to play for UMMC Ekaterinburg during the off-season. The Russian authorities alleged that she was carrying cannabis oil in her luggage. Since then, many athletes are leading the calls to bring her back to the United States. However, the recent news was a massive setback to those aspirations.

A court in Moscow rejected an appeal by the basketball player against her nine-year prison sentence for alleged possession of drugs.

Many celebrities and athletes have come out in support of her and recently, the WWE personality, Kayla Braxton, tweeted her feelings on the latest development in this saga, with a stern warning to others.

Kayla Braxton said Brittney Griner’s situation is heartbreaking

In February 2022, Russian authorities arrested two-time Olympic gold medalist Brittney Griner, at a Moscow airport for allegedly carrying cannabis oil, which is a banned substance.

On August 4, she was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony. She had appealed against the sentence, hoping for some relief. However, on October 25, a Russian court dismissed her plea and upheld the initial sentence. Many athletes, including NBA greats, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry, have come out in her support. Top WWE female announcer, Kayla Braxton, also shared her views on the latest news in the Griner case.

Braxton, who is a regular feature of WWE programming, as an announcer of Monday Night RAW, came out with a tweet for the Phoenix Mercury player. She wrote in a tweet, “Man – this #BrittneyGriner situation is heartbreaking. And before you respond to this tweet with something negative or bigoted, do not. I will block you. Her sentence is insanely cruel, inhumane and unfair. I hope she stays strong.”

In this tweet, Braxton has called Brittney’s sentence unfair while also pointing out a fair warning to those who may come up with something negative or despicable to say.

Brittney Griner’s basketball career

Brittney Griner has had a very successful basketball career. She has played for the WNBA team, Phoenix Mercury since 2013. She has also won two Olympic gold medals, winning one each at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 games.

In 2014, she helped Phoenix to most wins in WNBA history and the team’s third league championship. She also plays for the Russian side, UMMC Ekaterinburg, in the WNBA off-season and has won championships with them. She is one of 11 players to win an Olympic gold medal, the FIBA World Cup gold medal, the WNBA title, and the NCAA title.

Before becoming a professional player, she made history as a college athlete at Baylor University. She set an all-time single season record for blocked shots in her freshman year. Brittney Griner also became the only collegiate player participating in the 2011 USA National Team’s European Tour.
