Rhea Ripley pokes fun at Team USA—Is Australia the new swimming powerhouse?

The Paris Olympics are upon us, and the environment is competitive. Every sports enthusiast is keen on supporting their own country and favorite athletes. Despite retiring from an active swimming career, Michael Phelps can’t help but be affected by the comments that his fellow countrymen are having to endure at the Olympics this year.

The most decorated swimmer in history wanted Team USA to reply to Cate Campbell‘s belittling comments by outperforming the Australians. On the contrary, the Australians maintained their dominance at most of the swimming games, allowing an Aussie WWE star to take a shot at the Americans.

Retired Australian swimmer Cate Campbell released a statement where she made fun of how she loves it when the Cowbells and the USA chants at the venue go silent once their team is defeated. She had also added, “Bring on Paris, that’s all I have to say. U.S., stop being sore losers.” Seeing this fired up Michael Phelps, who recalled his own fair share of rivalries against top Australian swimmers of his time. Phelps was bothered by Campbell’s comment and said, “Somebody said that to me, I would lose it. I would literally make them eat every word they just said about me.

This enthusiasm was picked up by American female swimmer Katie Ledecky, who claimed that she would show the world what the American team is capable of. However, to make fun of the situation, Grayson Waller entered the scene and tweeted in favor of his own country: “It’s time to admit that Australia has way better athletes than the USA. We have 10% of your population and we got more gold medals 🤣.

The Arrogant Aussie thinks because the island continent trains such competent athletes, it sums up why the wrestling world is full of Australian talents, including WWE. At last, the A-Town Down Under member ended up with the final laugh as Katie lost to another swimmer from Waller’s homeland.

Michael Phelps’ advice remained partly unheard

Have an interesting take?

After claiming that she would make her nation proud by defeating the Aussies, Ledecky lost to Team Australia during the event on 28th July. She was up against Ariarne Titmus from the island continent, who bagged the gold during the 400m freestyle. Unfortunately, Ledecky couldn’t even be the first runner-up in the event and finished in third place, taking a bronze medal for home. However, if you are a fan of Team USA and want them to succeed, don’t be disheartened because the Americans still won several medals in different categories during the swimming games.

Apart from this, the Stars and Stripes have also been doing well in other sports. On the 29th, men’s artistic gymnastics team all-around finale took place and Team USA finished third, right behind China (silver), and Japan (gold). Today in Paris, on July 30th, we will see the women’s artistic gymnastics team all-around take place and the odds of USA winning the gold look good. There was a minor setback during the Subdivision 2 qualifications when the legendary Simone Biles inflicted a calf injury but since it wasn’t anything too serious, you should get ready for the results potentially ending in Team USA’s favor.
