Olympians have been known to make the transition into MMA in the past. Former UFC Lightweight champion Daniel Cormier is a fine example. Ronda Rousey is another one who not only shone in the Olympics but also in MMA and WWE. Former WWE NXT star Chad Gable has also represented the United States in the Olympics.

Combat sport is very different than sports entertainment. While it involves real maneuvers to overpower an opponent, the latter relies more on the storytelling aspect. It turns out that both have tons of fans. However, Gable has recently opened up about why MMA was never an option for him.

Chad Gable participated in the wrestling competition in the 2012 Summer Olympics. He recently talked to Fighful Wrestling With Sean Ross Sapp and discussed a host of issues. The former tag-team champion talked about his options after appearing at the Games and how MMA was not one of them.

MMA was never an option for Chad Gable

He said, “I never really did, I wasn’t as big of a fan as everyone else was. I didn’t really follow it {MMA}. But like it never resonated with me and like I was a fan of pro wrestling since I was a six-year-old man.”

On his wrestling fandom from childhood, Gable said, “I was on the message boards in the 90s when it was first becoming cool and like real wrestling geek from the beginning dude. So that’s all I always ever wanted to do. This is all I ever wanted to do.”

Fans of Gable would be delighted that he chose pro wrestling as a career. As much as the MMA has been popular among the masses, there are a few detractors to it.

Some very popular names at that. 16-time world champion John Cena also once echoed the same sentiment and respectfully talked about why he put the WWE over MMA, particularly the UFC

His tireless work in the WWE has impressed many

The one-half of The Alpha Academy has excelled with his tireless in-ring work. He has been particularly impressive with his incredible display of strength. Gable notably hit a German suplex on heavyweight Braun Strowman in October last year, which made people stand up and take notice of his physical prowess. He is always the go-to guy in the main roster to have stellar matches.

The former American Alpha member has emerged as a valuable asset to the Triple H-headed WWE. And he recently took ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes to the limit on the recent edition of RAW.

Chad Gable continues to impress with his work in the squared circle. It would not be surprising if he gets a well-deserved push in the WWE. While the MMA is popular globally, it is not everyone’s cup of tea. And in hindsight, Gable has done well for himself after entering the world of pro wrestling rather than MMA.
