The Rock has had the ‘golden touch’ when it comes to big movie franchises. The actor has seen box office success with movie franchises such as Jumanji and the Fast & Furious. DC will like that touch to continue as Black Adam makes a first live-action appearance.
The early good news for DC is that Black Adam is now expected to open with strong numbers at the box office.
Dwayne Johnson set to beat Arnold’s iconic film at the box office
Previously, The Rock’s highest domestic opening came in the Fast & Furious franchise with Hobbs and Shaw, which opened to $60 million in August 2019. But the latest projections show Black Adam is set to surpass it.
According to ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ Black Adam will be the biggest box office opening for the former WWE Champion. The report states that the movie will gross between $70 million to $75 million in its domestic debut over the weekend of October 21-23.
This means the movie may do similar numbers to Sony’s Venom in 2018. Not only the projected number will be a big boost to DC but it will provide a shot in the arm for the box office after the struggles of the previous two months.
Black Adam’s projected opening weekend box office collection will also see him beat bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger film Terminator 3. The Arnold starrer sci-fi movie had a collection of $44 million on its July 2003, opening weekend.

However, The Rock will fall short of beating another Hollywood star, Will Smith. Interestingly, Smith’s highest opening weekend grosser was also a superhero movie with DC, the 2016 ‘Suicide Squad’. The movie made an astounding $133 million on its opening weekend.
Still, Black Adam’s numbers make good reading for Warner Bros. Dwayne Johnson’s star power and global appeal can ensure this will be an international success for DC. ‘The Great One’ has himself promoted the movie heavily and his pop culture engagement can launch DC into a successful new era of superhero movies.
