Did CM Punk bite off more than he could chew with his UFC career?

If The Undertaker is an all-time legend in the promotion, CM Punk is a legend in the making. Despite both garnering top-notch popularity in their respective heydey, the generational gap and the differences in achievements and talents made them polar apart. But if you ever feel inquisitive about knowing what the Phenom feels about the ever-controversial new-age star of WWE, your wait is over. The Deadman extensively revealed his thoughts about Punk and his career (Both in WWE and UFC) in a candid chat on MightyCast w/Demetrious Johnson.

CM Punk had dipped his feet in the Octagon for a brief stint but couldn’t chisel the best out of it. Referring to his typically futile MMA stint, The Undertaker took a gentle jibe.

The great Undertaker has single-handedly carried the promotion through decades. Starting from holding the wonder record of an undisputed WrestleMania streak until The Beast broke it to emulating varying gimmicks with extreme dedication and perfection, the wrestler rode through an astounding career under the WWE banner. Although he no longer engages in active competition, he still deeply cares about the nitty gritty of the promotion and the products.

CM Punk, being the current sensation of the Stamford-based company following his momentous comeback, had the luck to become a subject point of Taker’s recent discussion. When the host asked The Undertaker what he thought about Punk’s mammoth star power in the wrestling business. The Undertaker agreed, referring to Punk’s UFC career, especially given how he had no background in amateur wrestling like Brock Lesnar.

”He was a wrestler, not an amateur wrestler, but he was a professional wrestler before he went to MMA… He had a falling out with the company and I think he just wanted to try mixed martial arts. You know Brock had done it, but Brock was a two-time NCAA champion…. Punk became popular through professional wrestling, then he tried mixed martial arts and yeah, that didn’t turn out really well for him… Yeah, it ain’t for everybody.” Taker revealed.

However, despite lambasting his UFC stint, The Undertaker gave the Second City Saint his flower for listening to his heart.

The WWE icon himself didn’t ever step into the Octagon. Although he popularized some of the signature MMA-style techniques such as The Guillotine, etc he didn’t have an opportunity to try out his skillset inside the cage. While we don’t know if he had a slight regret over that ever in his life, he respects CM Punk for taking that leap of faith.

In the latter part of the same interview, Taker added that he admired Punk for not silencing the call of his heart. He also mentioned that the former AEW star could do it because of the monetary security he already possessed from WWE as a backup.

In 2014, Punk for the first time signed a multi-fight UFC deal following his WWE exit. However, it fizzled out as quickly as it started in 2016, with Punk just having two fights and enduring two losses.
