What did Joe Rogan’s friend claim about Brock Lesnar’s “money fight” at UFC 100?

Being a former UFC fighter himself, Brendan Schaub knows the ins and outs of the business and claimed that before Conor McGregor rose to prominence, it was the Brock Lesnar’s era in UFC. As per reports, Lesnar earned a hefty amount of $3,000,000 even before the match had started from sponsorships alone. Schaub claimed Lesnar to be the money-making draw before the Conor McGregor era. McGregor himself is the current money-making machine. He earned a reported salary of $3 million in 2018 during his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. And, again in 2020, during his fight against Donald Cerrone he earned $5 million.

Speaking on this, Schaub said, “Back then before the Conor era, Brock was the Conor. So, it was the money fight.” To which, Vliet said, “UFC 100 made so much money because Brock attached to that. It’s funny because Frank Mir is like, ‘Yeah Brock made a lot of money in that and I didn’t see any of the gates.'” To which, Schaub would claim, “Brock made stupid money.”

Coming from a wrestling background, Lesnar was relatively a huge name in the industry, and his popularity aided him into becoming a big-money draw.

Both McGregor and Lesnar are two of the greatest fighters, the world of UFC has seen. However, while Lesnar would move on to have his second phase of his career in WWE, McGregor still continues to work in UFC and has seen a major transformation in his physique.

Despite being a big-money draw, why did Brock Lesnar leave UFC?

While Lesnar left UFC, he would still earn himself a hefty contract with WWE. Currently, one of the highest-paid athletes in WWE, Lesnar found himself at the top of the food chain after joining the company in 2012.

Although, he earned a massive amount of money in UFC; he left the company in 2010 after repeated losses, and his struggles with diverticulitis. Although, he would again return to have a second run in UFC, but would not pursue it further, and retired after a no-contest fight against Mark Hunt.
