Athletes encounter many ups and downs throughout their careers. The prime points of their careers are mostly in the spotlight and are for everyone to witness. However, the athletes have to deal with the downs in their careers by themselves away from the fans’ eyes.

These struggles could be physical, on account of putting their bodies on the line, or could be mental. It’s the issue of mental health that may cause a performer to struggle in their personal lives as well. WWE superstar Brock Lesnar revealed in the past that anxiety also troubled him while competing in major events.

‘The Beast’ has overseen a stellar career over the span of two decades and is still going strong in his wrestling career. He portrays a tough persona on the screen and rarely delves into his personal life. However, in an appearance on the Pat McAfee podcast, Lesnar opened up about the mental aspects of performing at the top level.

Brock Lesnar discussed struggles with his mental health

He said, “I have a total crash after being in front of audiences, Like, I go hibernate in Saskatchewan. Like, my downers like, the anxiety from that – like, takes me a few days to recover. Forever, yeah it’s been that way. Like, I used to be on have big wrestling matches in high school, and like, to come down from big arenas it’s like, I get nervous around people and I’m awkward as f*ck. Yeah, but I’m putting on a show.

Like I’ve got to go through all this thing, and that’s just who I am. And I like to go and just get away from the people. And it’s not that I dislike people. I mean, it’s not been that way, but some people, yeah, I don’t like. I just like to be left the f**k alone, and because I’m like – like, I’m in front of an audience then it just exhausts me. And so I’ve got to go and like, recharge up.” added the 6-time world champion.

‘The Conqueror’ was quite forthcoming on the mental anxiety and stress that he goes through while performing in front of a live audience. It would be a surprise for many as he carries himself brilliantly in the ring and never let his emotions get the better of him while wrestling. The WWE superstar’s preference for staying away from the limelight is well known.

An illustrious career based on persistence

Lesnar has found success in every promotion that he has stepped in. He did not stop at the initial success he received in the WWE and left to prove his mettle in UFC.

In a career built upon proving his doubters wrong time and time again, Lesnar has displayed immense toughness rarely found in other performers. And he has reaped rewards for his persistence, winning the top accolades in both sports entertainment and combat sports.

The WWE legend’s issues dealing with a major physical ailment Diverticulitis are already well documented. However, Brock Lesnar’s comments in the past highlight that he has had to deal with anxiety-related issues during his career as well.
