‘Iron’ Michael Chandler announced his entry into the UFC in enthralling fashion at UFC 257. He defeated Dan Hooker in the first round and showed the world what he’s truly capable of.

What he also showed the world was his promo skills after the fight. Taking inspiration from Ric Flair, ‘Iron’ made a huge statement in his debut!

The first time Ric Flair spoke to Michael Chandler

During an interview with BT Sport, Michael Chandler talked about his post-match antics at UFC 257. He revealed that ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair reached out to him over it.

Chandler said Flair greeted him in typical Ric Flair fashion, “He’s like, ‘Man, I’m getting a lot of media buzz right now cause of some guy who kicked someone’s a** in UFC. And then started using one of my lines.'”

Michael Chandler added that the conversation with Ric Flair was very cool. He then revealed how he had been a fan of pro-wrestling since he was a child, he also opened up about some of his all-time favorites.

‘Iron’ declared, “Ric Flair, Diamond Dallas Page, Steve Austin, The Rock, those were the guys I looked up to and wanted to be like.”

The latest addition to the UFC continued sharing his love for pro wrestling. He was asked if his finishing move would involve him doing something off the top turnbuckle. Chandler quickly seized the opportunity and namedropped another WWE Legend, Rey Mysterio.

He said, “One of my favorites was Rey Mysterio, Jr. The smaller guy. The Mexican Warrior. He used to do the crazy flips and all the crazy acrobatic stuff.

“I, by no means, fancy myself an acrobat like that. But yeah, my finishing move would be something that got some oohs and aahs out of the crowd.”

Well, Michael Chandler definitely is a big-time fan of wrestling. And who knows? He may very well branch out once he decides to say goodbye to MMA.

But that day isn’t coming anytime soon. Chandler’s next challenge comes in the form of Charles Oliveira at UFC 262. And ‘Iron’ has vowed to make his newest friend, Ric Flair, proud!
