Ronda Rousey has been a trailblazer all her life. She was the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in Judo and also became the first woman to sign for the UFC. Rousey has always talked about how her parents had a key role in her development as an athlete and a person. She once revealed that, when she was a child, her father taught her something that most parents would be uncomfortable attempting.

The former UFC Champion has previously talked about how her mother used to train in her early days and prepared her for the world of MMA. Moreover, she opened up about how her father’s training came in handy while she was shooting for a movie.

Ronda Rousey talks about her father’s influence

During her success in the UFC, Ronda Rousey became a global star. This led to her landing a role in the Hollywood action movie ‘The Expendables 3’ in 2014.

Speaking on FOX 11 News, she revealed how tough the filming was for ‘The Expendables’, saying, “It’s tough stuff such as holding, like, a real gun, having, like, to shoot blanks with in between something and then run and do something else and stay over there and that’s why I liked it so much.”

Further, she explained how her father’s training came in handy during the filming of action scenes.

She said, “I think, like 75% of it, I was already really good at. My dad taught me how to shoot when I was like six years old and my mom taught me how to fight and I just had to kind of rely on sign and all of those other icons to kind of give me advice and mentor me through the process.

Teaching children how to shoot isn’t something you normally see parents do. But for ‘The Baddest Woman on the Planet’, it turned out to be beneficial during her adventure in Hollywood.

The former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion also credited her mother for shaping her MMA career.

‘The Rowdy One’ said, “My mom would sneak up behind me and put me in a rear naked choke. And yeah, stuff like that all the time, to make sure my reactions are really quick. And I’m grateful for that now.[…] She really was the architect of my whole career and arranged the structure for all I did.”

For Rousey, her parents will always remain her inspiration. ‘The Arm Collector’ has achieved tremendous success in all her ventures and has been thankful to her parents at every step. Her ability to transition successfully from one genre to another shows the resilience her parents have taught her. Moreover, with her focused attitude, Rousey will continue to break new ground.
