Conor McGregor has had a long-running beef with WWE stars. This arises from the fact that he does not respect pro wrestlers for what they do. Instead, he strongly believes that MMA fighters like himself are the real deal. However, there is one WWE star from the current generation of wrestlers who has his respect. Regardless of his opinion on pro wrestlers, McGregor respects CM Punk.

The former WWE superstar has never faced McGregor inside the octagon. However, he has experienced the rush of fighting inside UFC’s caged ring twice in his career run. Although it wasn’t a long run, McGregor still respects the wrestler for his gutsy move.

In 2016, when The Notorious was still the World Featherweight Champion for UFC, a TMZ reporter approached him in public. CM Punk had only recently entered the MMA business. Following his September 10, 2016 fight, the reporter asked McGregor for reviews. Although the former WWE star lost against Mickey Gall, The Irishman had nothing but respect for him. He also went on to give the reason behind his opinion of Punk.

In the spontaneous interview, The Notorious said, “I’ll tell you what: fair play to him. ‘Cause he got in there and fought, and not a lot of people do. Not a lot of people have the b*lls to make that walk. So, fair play! He got his a*s whooped. God bless – he got his a*s whooped. Those WWE guys are straight pu**ies, I told you so. But he isn’t. He got in and fought… So fair play to him… Respect!

It’s clear that McGregor’s opinion about WWE talents hadn’t changed. However, seeing Punk step up to fight inside the Octagon really helped McGregor get a new perspective on things.

By the end of the clip, the reporter also asked McGregor if he thinks more WWE wrestlers should make their way to the UFC. Although his opinion on that appears to be tentative, the MMA fighter might have to change his opinion regarding WWE talent. This is because speculations suggest that fans might see McGregor in WWE soon.

In a recent interview, Grayson Waller gave his two cents on how the Irish MMA fighter could possibly join WWE in the coming future. The main reason behind Waller’s thinking is that one cannot keep fighting for long. Considering McGregor’s ‘happening’ life, it would be hard for him to commit to the MMA world. However, the SmackDown star claimed that wrestling is something that a lot of people do part-time as well.
