If there is one person in WWE who doesn’t look like he’s holding anything back in the ring, it is Brock Lesnar. Not only is the man a physically dominating monster, but he also has the aura and ability to back it up. To get away from all this unwanted speculation, Vince McMahon showed the utter domination of Lesnar. But that only solidified people’s suspicions, so his other promoter tried something different. When he switched to MMA from wrestling, his debut match was praised, but people weren’t convinced yet. So, for his UFC debut, Dana White, the promoter of the show, put him against the biggest man on the roster, Frank Mir.

How Dana White booked the first Brock Lesnar match in the UFC

While talking about his first UFC match, Lesnar unveiled some backstage details about Dana White. He wrote, “At the time, the promotion was looking to do something with its former Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir, and I was the perfect answer to everyone’s problems. Mir had been in a motorcycle accident that derailed his career, and he was in the process of making his comeback. He’s a big guy, dangerous on his feet and on the ground.

No one could call a fight with Frank Mir a setup. It was a perfect scenario for Dana and the UFC. Either I was going to defeat a former Heavyweight Champion, and launch my own career from the top, or Frank was going to kick my ass and show the world that WWE guys have no business stepping into the Octagon.

His first bout with Frank Mir was only the beginning of a tremendous career that Lesnar would have in the UFC. More than anything, coming to UFC and MMA brought legitimacy to the character and real-life person, Brock Lesnar. This helped him not only in his UFC career but added a benefactor when he returned to WWE.
