It is nothing new that sports journalists can divide opinions among fans as well as various other stars. Recently, this has been the case with noted MMA journalist Ariel Helwani. His confrontation has come against none other than the president of AEW, Tony Khan. AEW has emerged as a competitor to WWE of late, with many stars from the Stamford-based promotion jumping ship to Khan’s company.
After Helwani was present on WWE SmackDown last week ahead of the Elimination Chamber event, an infuriated Tony Khan, hit out at the Canadian journalist. He called him a “fraud” for supporting one promotion over the other. However, Helwani had just the right response prepared for him.

Ariel Helwani has been vastly an MMA journalist. Due to his familiarity with combat sports, he has even tried to experiment with wrestling. Occasionally, the journalist has interviewed pro wrestlers as well, which include many huge WWE names. He even appeared on the latest edition of SmackDown to hype up the Elimination Chamber PLE.
After Khan’s criticism of him, the journalist decided to come up with an answer of his own. On his show, the ‘MMA Hour’, he took his time to talk about the incident. “He’s no different than Dana (White). What I thought about tweeting back to him was, ‘Dana is not going to shag you, mate,’” said the angry journalist.
The reason why he compared the AEW’s boss with UFC president Dana White is that how the journalist has not had good relations with him either. Again, the disliking between UFC’s caretaker and the infamous reporter has set the internet on fire time and again. However, when it comes to WWE, Helwani seems to have a different opinion altogether.

This heated animosity between Helwani and Khan possibly stems from when the AEW owner appeared on “The MMA Hour”. Khan refused to talk about the brawl-out controversy after AEW’s All Out pay-per-view last year in September. Helwani referred to the interview as frustrating. Many also lashed out at the journalist for not being similarly critical of WWE COO Triple H.
In his news podcast, Helwani mentioned how he has a good relationship with Nick Khan, WWE’s CEO. However, he ensures the fans that this will never lead to him being biased toward the promotion. The former ESPN employee has had good credibility among sports enthusiasts. Helwani just had one indirect reply: “I’m not a wrestling journalist. I think people are confusing me about my role in MMA. It’s not the same.”
