In a conversation with Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour, Lashley revealed the real reason he left MMA while he was riding an eight-fight winning streak.
Why did Bobby Lashley retire from MMA?
Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Lashley stated that his original plan while joining MMA was to partake in only a few fights. However, he couldn’t set up his schedule because of his mindset. “I came to MMA with the wrong mind frame… When I originally came into fighting, I came into it saying I want to do on fight,” he told Helwani.
Later, when Lashley actually wanted to go for the top, he couldn’t do that, as he never had a training camp. Lashley’s title run was also hampered as he was a single father and couldn’t manage his professional life with his personal life.
“That’s one thing is when I was like, man, can we run for the title? I want to run for the title but because I am a single father. So, I had my kids and what I was literally doing. I was having to run down to Barnett.”
“I was running down the American Top Team and I would be there for a week. And then I had to run home, and I was with the kids and then I’d run back and get a little bit of sparring in a couple of days here and there,” Lashley continued.
All of this added to Lashley’s dilemma as he decided to ultimately leave the sport and focus on other things. ‘The Dominator’, as he was known in the cage, left Bellator with an impressive 15-2 record.
How did Bobby Lashley beat Brock Lesnar?
Bobby Lashley beat Brock Lesnar to become 2x WWE champion at Royal Rumble 2022. Although ‘The Beast Incarnate’ looked better in the fight, Lashley came out victorious due to the intervention of universal champion Roman Reigns.

Lesnar was on his way to successfully defend his belt against Lashley after downing him with his signature move. However, there was no referee to make the call as the duo hurt him minutes ago in the match.
Taking advantage of this moment, Universal champ Reigns rushed into the arena and bashed his strap on Lesnar. Which gave Lashley the opportunity to pin him, this time when the referee was in place.
