EXCLUSIVE: ‘The Guy’s a Former Olympian Wrestler’: Gunther Breaks Character to Applaud Chad Gable After Destroying Him in Front of His Kids

Apart from his crude and brutal wrestling style, there’s another thing that has fans attracted to Gunther like a moth to the flame. Along with the brutality of the ring, Gunther brings in a regal European character to WWE, who looks down on every one of his opponents.

We saw the most heinous face of this character when Gunther laid his last opponent, Chad Gable, embarrassingly on the mat in front of Gable’s kids at WWE Raw. But out of the ring, The Ring General has other words for the former Olympian wrestler.

Gunther breaks character to praise his last opponent

In an exclusive interview with the star at WWE Superstar Spectacle, we asked the Intercontinental Champion about facing Chad Gable. Despite lacking the height or bulk of the Austrian wrestler, the former Olympian defied the odds and put on a huge challenge for Gunther.

About Gable’s threat to his reign, he said, “It was a big challenge. The guy’s a former Olympian wrestler, so he brings something to the table that a lot of people have. He’s technically very versatile, very dangerous, but I’m very confident with who I’m in the ring with. Doesn’t matter the size, the ability. I think it makes a good champion to really adapt to every opponent to be successful.”

GUNTHER successfully defended his title on RAW and now stands tall as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history. It will be interesting to see who will finally dethrone The Ring General to take his title.

At the moment there might not be many challengers who can take him down.
