After Clash of Champions, fans thought the storyline between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Jey Uso was over. Roman defeated Jey (after Jimmy Uso threw in a towel), and that was it. However, WWE has other plans in mind. On the latest episode of SmackDown, Jey Uso got himself a rematch for the title at the upcoming Hell in a Cell.

Fans might wonder why Jey Uso is getting the title opportunity when the previous champion Bray Wyatt is yet to receive his rematch for the PayBack defeat. WWE is definitely focusing on some long term storytelling here. Other than that, here are three reasons why we think Jey Uso got his rematch with Roman Reigns.

WWE is exploring Roman Reigns and Jey Uso’s character

Right now, Reigns is on his first heel run. After demanding the heel turn for years, fans are definitely enjoying his exploits.

Moreover, WWE is trying to erase any remains of the heel character from his SHIELD days. The stable shaped his career but got him some backlash as well.

Jey Uso, on the other hand, has always been a tag-team competitor with his twin Jimmy Uso. They have enjoyed some great runs as tag team champions. However, Jimmy Uso suffered a knee injury in May that put him out of action for six to nine months. This is a great opportunity for Jey to venture into single competitions without an ego clash with his brother.

This is a first-time opportunity for both the competitors and they are using it well.

Samoan Showdown at WrestleMania 37

Ever since the storyline between Reigns and Uso started, fans and critics have been speculating that the storyline is nothing but a ploy to bring back a certain Samoan wrestler. Who could be a better opponent for The Big Dog than the Rock himself?

Whenever Roman Reigns claims himself to be the “Tribal Chief,” fans can’t help but think about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Arguably the most successful wrestler and personality in the Anoa’i family, Johnson is the only one who can challenge Reigns for “Head of the Table” position.

Rock and Reigns have also expressed interest in a match together. Maybe this rematch is only a ploy to make things so intense that Johnson can’t help but intervene. Things then go to WrestleMania 37, the biggest stage of them all, where The Rock makes his return.

Anoa’i Family faction is on the rise

The prestigious Anoa’i Family has been in the wrestling industry for decades now. However, there have not been any significant wrestling stables from the family (despite some legendary tag teams).

But right now, there is a solid chance that the stable might actually turn into reality. There are multiple members (male and female alike) on the main roster. Reigns also talked about one such stable, including Samoa Joe, and he was confident that the Samoan Stable could beat everyone.

Moreover, Paul Heyman is famous for managing groups since his ECW days. Whenever Uso or Reigns lose, they might reconcile and start the group with Heyman as the manager. Every PROMINENT member in the family has been more or less involved in the feud, be it via promo, or via tweets.

WWE would love to have a strong stable in the new era. If it happens to consist of people related to each other (Like the McMahon-Helmsley alliance), that would be the cherry on the cake.
