WWE Fastlane 2021 will feature one of the most anticipated matches in recent times when Roman Reigns will take on Daniel Bryan as the former defends his WWE Universal Championship. This match is not just a landmark for fans but also for Bryan.

Since he came back from his retirement in 2018, the “People’s Champion” had a list of people he wanted to face, and Reigns was on top of that list. Compared to the 2015 Roman, the current Roman has evolved as a performer and has earned the moniker of the “Tribal Chief.

Now, he’s firmly entrenched in his role. He knows exactly who he is as a performer, and he doesn’t take anybody’s crap,” Bryan told Bleacher Report in an exclusive interview.

“This is the match I have been looking forward to most since I came back. I thought when I came back, there’s a couple of enormous matches I want to knock out of the park, and at the top of the list is Roman Reigns.”

The upcoming Fastlane match would not be the first heavyweight clash between the two industry titans. In fact, Roman debuted in WWE as a part of a tag team match against Bryan. They had their last full-fledged match at Fastlane 2015.

Daniel Bryan feels he and Roman Reigns are continuing their 2015 feud

Back in 2015, Reigns defeated Daniel Bryan to retain his number-one-contender spot for WrestleMania 31. Reigns won the opportunity earlier at Royal Rumble, much to the fans’ disappointment. WWE turned that into a storyline.

Regardless, as Bryan goes into their match on Sunday, Bryan feels that it is “like a continuation of what happened in 2015,” but he acknowledged Reigns is much more established now.

It feels to me more like I’m like the underdog in this one, much more than I was the underdog before. This one feels like he’s got a ton of momentum on his side. And in a lot of people’s eyes, he’s the most interesting character in WWE,” Bryan said.

Compared to their 2015 match, the stakes are a lot higher. If Bryan wins, he will not only be the Universal Champion but will also headline the event in a match with Royal Rumble 2021 winner Edge.
