After the shocking return and even more shocking title win of Becky Lynch at SummerSlam 2021, various reports have hinted at a gimmick change. Lynch defeated SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair in under a minute to win her fifth championship.
Before SummerSlam, Lynch last wrestled at WrestleMania 36, defeating Shayna Baszler. Back then, she was the RAW Women’s Champion. The RAW following Money in the Bank, ‘The Man‘ gave up her title and took a time off to give birth to her baby girl.
She and Seth Rollins‘s daughter Roux was born in December 2020. The couple got married earlier this year. Since then, she has been a regular at the WWE Performance Center, getting ready to get back to the ring.

Now that she’s, apparently, she would be promoted as a heel. PWInsider learned from multiple sources that “going forward, Lynch will be positioned as the top heel on SmackDown, initially feuding with Bianca Belair.”
Ahead of Lynch, there were no top heels. Multiple superstars like Bayley, Carmella, Sasha Banks, Zelina Vega were the prominent heels. Lynch would come in to fill the space of the top heel, it seems.

Becky Lynch as a heel in WWE
If this plan really takes place, it would be Lynch’s first proper heel turn in her main roster career. She was a heel back in the all-female promotion Shimmer Women Athletes in early 2006.
In NXT, Lynch had a brief heel run when she aligned herself with Sasha Banks to form Team B.A.E. (Best at Everything). However, that alliance lasted only a few months.
On the main roster, Lynch was on a verge of a heel turn at SummerSlam 2018. In a triple threat match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, Charlotte pinned Lynch to win.
After the match, Lynch attacked Flair. However, a few days later on SmackDown, Lynch cut a promo on Flair, WWE, and its audiences. She laid bare all the differences and lack of opportunities she faced in WWE.

Despite being a heel, the audience supported Lynch, causing her to turn into a ‘Tweener’, neither heel nor face. Following Evolution, Lynch adopted the moniker of ‘The Man’ and claimed to be the best wrestler in WWE. Thus, she turned face again.
Lynch was portrayed to be a face at SummerSlam. Hence, this report comes as a shock to many. However, Lynch, as a heel, has a plethora of possibilities as a character.
