Fans who were present at the Legacy Arena for this week’s episode of SmackDown were left in shock as Dwayne Johnson came face to face with Roman Reigns. Apart from that, it has been hinted that it could be Johnson who will be facing Reigns at WrestleMania 40. This announcement blew the roof and fans have been having mixed reactions since then. While fans are still trying to come to terms with this announcement, something from the past just came up.
Dwayne Johnson wanted to be the Undisputed Champion?
According to Fightful Select, several people from WWE’s backstage believed that at one point The Rock was pushing to win at WrestleMania. Many believe that this is something that might happen with his upcoming bout with Roman Reigns since he is an authoritative figure now at WWE.

The claim can be backed by another report by PWInsider. The word is that Johnson wanted to be a part of the main event at WrestleMania 40. His deal with the TKO Group was that he would main event WrestleMania. This is solidified by the report, that alleged that Johnson had the backing of several TKO executives is pushing for the upcoming WrestleMania XL Kickoff Event to happen next week.
Along with that, it is also considered that CM Punk’s unexpected injury might have played a role in changing the match card. Punk was injured at the 2024 Royal Rumble. He was rumored to be feuding with Seth Rollins leading up to the upcoming WrestleMania.
While the speculations are at an all-time high, Johnson has brought another addition to WWE. The said person will be playing an important role in the The Rock vs Roman Reigns storyline.
A former Attitude Era creative returns
Reports have stated that a former WWE creative writer, Brian Gewirtz will be returning to WWE. It has been stated that he will be in charge of the story that will eventually lead to the feud between Johnson and Reigns. Gewirtz was a part of the Stamford-based promotion for almost 16 years. He joined the company back in 1999 and helped create many interesting segments from the Attitude Era. He left the company back in 2015 to join Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions as Senior Vice President of Development.

It has been reported that Gewirtz will be present at the majority of WWE shows from now onward. It is also believed that his creative team might be Endeavor‘s ‘plan b’. A major announcement concerning the WrestleMania 40 match card will be made this coming Thursday, February 8, 2024.
