WWE Superstar Mustafa Ali received a significant push after he debuted on the main roster. Recently, Ali shared an insight into his SmackDown debut alongside Daniel Bryan.

On Dec. 11, 2018, Ali made his WWE main roster debut when he interrupted then-WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. Recently, a fan tweeted out a clip from the debut and asked for the backstory to the moments leading up to the debut.

Ali revealed how Daniel Bryan (a prominent wrestler at that point), personally wanted to face Ali. Bryan argued WWE needed new faces on TV, other than pushing old ones.

Ali wrote, “Daniel Bryan goes “we need to invest in the future.” They go, “who do you have in mind.” Bryan says “give me Ali.” He may or may not have also called me a “hot, young babyface.” Check out the video below –

He also looked back at his title match with Kevin Owens and Daniel Bryan at Fastlane 2019. As a last-minute addition to the match, Ali won over the crowd. Bryan pinned Ali following a running knee.

Looking back at the match, Ali said, “felt that I proved I belong in the main event scene. I know for a fact that not many could be put in that position and do what I did.”

After a seven-month hiatus, Ali came back seeking retribution with a group of wrestlers. Befittingly, the group was named Retribution. After terrorizing the main roster for weeks, the group betrayed Ali.

Ahead of WrestleMania, Ali thought he would face Kofi Kingston at the event. Back in 2019, Kingston replaced Ali at the Elimination Chamber match, following the latter’s injury.

Although the plan was shelved, Ali hopes to face Kofi one day. “When we do it, I hope we’re allowed to do it right,” Ali said. “Because I feel like it’d be one hell of a story. I’ll have my moment, I’ve just gotta stick around and fight for it. I almost got there once, so I know I can do it again.”
