All of us who have grown up with WWE know how seriously WWE protected kayfabe in their early days. Being one of the company’s top stars, The Undertaker made sure that he didn’t break his character in public.

In his 30 year long career, “The Phenom” never promoted WWE nor gave interviews as he kept a low profile, all for the sake of the sacred kayfabe. However, one of his close friends and WWE colleague, JBL, once tried to break his character on TV.

As he recalls in his Last Ride snippet, getting him to break character was one of the running gags between him and The Undertaker. During his reign as the WWE Champion, JBL almost got him to smile.

He joked about how Undertaker should go on a vacation and stop being so upset all the time. The trip would make Undertaker’s frown “turn upside down.”

The Undertaker almost started to grin, and that is the closest JBL ever got him to break character. See the video below –

JBL and The Undertaker are very good friends in real life

JBL made his WWE debut against Undertaker in 1996 on the Raw after WrestleMania. As JBL recalled, he has never been on the wrong side of ‘The Deadman.’

In fact, Undertaker was one of the groomsmen in JBL’s wedding. In the same snippet, JBL shared how Taker was responsible for a scar on his forehead.

The doctor was sewing me up, and the Undertaker was in the dressing room, telling a story, and the doctor was not even looking at me. He was sitting there listening to the Undertaker.

When he finished with me, the stitch, you can see it had a huge gap in it. And, that’s why I got sets of scars, it’s all because of the Undertaker,” JBL laughed.

JBL fought one of his last matches in WWE against Taker and was present during The Phenom’s retirement ceremony at Survivor Series.
