Braun Strowman did not plan on being a part of this year’s WrestleMania. Furthermore, since he did not have any taping lined up at the Orlando Performance Center, he decided to head to Wisconsin for a brief family visit.
More than halfway into his journey, he received a call from the company.
“I was told, ‘There’s been a change, we need you. I said, ‘Well, I’m in Wisconsin. How am I getting there?’ Almost before I finished saying that, I was told there was a jet in the air that was landing in a few hours for me.”

Braun Strowman put down Bill Goldberg with a series of Powerslams
The situation was that Roman Reigns was not available to work and there was a huge opening. Braun Strowman had never actually achieved one of the primary WWE titles.
Now, he suddenly had the opportunity to represent WWE as one of its champions and he was not going to let this chance slip by him.
The original idea for WrestleMania was to pitch Roman Reigns against Bill Goldberg. Romans is a two-time leukemia survivor.
As a result, he did not continue with his schedule due to the COVID-19 spread and the related health concerns. Therefore, once Reigns was out of the running for this match, the next best option that WWE picked was Braun Strowman.
He did have the chance to meet his family, but shortly afterwards flew to Orlando. Goldberg and Strowman came face-to-face first thing in the morning at WrestleMania 36.
The match was nothing less than a shower of power-moves and strength.

“Powerslam, powerslam, powerslam, one-two-three, new Universal champion. Goldberg’s a legend and an icon, so it was a surreal thing to work with him. But it’s also a business, so unfortunately for Bill, he was just another victim in the list of people that got these hands.”
