After WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, another iconic Women’s Champion has debuted on NXT. Mickie James is the latest addition to the Black and Gold brand’s commentary team.

The future Hall of Famer joined NXT commentator Vic Joseph for the pre-show matches. On night 2, James lauded the women of NXT for putting up an impeccable show. She said,” Two nights of action, two nights of women, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺, stealing the show.”

James reiterated her words as she retweeted the WWE tweet with the caption, “I said what I said.” We are yet to receive news on whether Mickie’s move to NXT Commentary is permanent. She was also a part of the pre-show panels.

Truly, the NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver was an impeccable night for the women involved. On the first night’s main event, Raquel Gonzalez defeated Io Shirai to win her first NXT Women’s Title. She broke Shirai’s title reign after 304 days.

On the second night, NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon defended their titles for the first time against The Way (Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae). In the highflying match, the champions retained their titles.

Mickie James hits back against industry hypocrisy

Not only is James uplifting the younger generation of women in WWE, but she is speaking out against the “injustice” for the older generation as well.

The Six-time Women’s Champion was recently in news for calling out the ageism in the sports entertainment industry. In a Twitter conversation with fellow veteran Taya Valkyrie, Mickie spoke about the way women are left behind in the industry when they are barely 35.

In a Twitter thread, she explained her stance, “I agree 1000 percent. But in this industry once you hit 35, it’s perceived you should start wrapping it up and retire as a woman. Even though you’re just hitting your stride. At 40 “retire already” Even though the men are champs well into there 50s and glorified for it. Sad but true.”

She then went onto explain how she is not discrediting the men of the industry. “I have nothing but love and respect for EVERYONE I’ve shared the ring, locker room, busses, & road with. Whether it’s the 1st day or last day on the job, you deserve that respect & I hope I always gave it. The cream ALWAYS rises & should be APPLAUDED! I was merely stating an obvious truth.”

James last participated in the Women’s Royal Rumble match where Lacey Evans eliminated her. Although we want her in the ring more, it is good to see James embracing a new role.
