In an interview conducted a few months ago, Triple H said that Pat McAfee in the ring was not a onetime thing. The Game kept his word as McAfee returned on tonight’s edition of NXT.
In the main event, Breezango was scheduled to defend their Tag Team championships against Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong. However, Bobby Fish was attacked backstage and taken for an MRI scan.

Kyle O’Reilly was then added as a last-minute partner for Roderick Strong; however, the latter was attacked backstage too. As O’Reilly didn’t want to fight alone, NXT General Manager added Lorcan and Burch to the main event.

In only their second defense, Breezango lost their titles after interference by a masked man. After the match, the masked man revealed himself to be Pat McAfee, and everyone understood the connection between the mysterious attacks on Undisputed Era members.

McAfee then introduced Lorcan and Burch as the new champions. After that, he taunted Adam Cole and Undisputed era by copying their signature pose in a funny way.
This didn’t sit well with the longest-reigning NXT Champion in history. Cole took to Twitter to give a reaction to Pat McAfee’s return to NXT.
Alright. Sh$t just got real. https://t.co/o5zS39uRSb

Pat McAfee is back to avenge his NXT Takeover 30 loss to Adam Cole
A few months on July 23, Adam Cole was a guest on Pat McAfee’s podcast. The two got into a terrible argument after McAfee accused Cole of hiding behind the Undisputed Era.
On the July 27 edition of NXT, McAfee was on NXT to make amends with Cole. However, things got worse as McAfee punted Cole’s head after a scuffle.
The following day on ESPN, Triple H challenged McAfee on Cole’s behalf for a match at TakeOver XXX. McAfee accepted the challenge.
Unfortunately, McAfee came up short at Takeover XXX, losing to Adam Cole. Since then, McAfee had been out of action.

Cole was supposed to be in a rivalry with Ridge Holland after being attacked by him at TakeOver 31. However, it seems McAfee has been called back earlier due to the injury Holland suffered last week on NXT.
