In 2019, the NXT roster had a steady rise. Back then, even main roster stars went to the roster for matches. However, one instance remains transparent, thanks to the personal relationship between Kevin Owens and Adam Cole.

In the 2019 NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Cole’s stable Undisputed Era faced Team Ciampa. The team of Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominic Dijakovic, had one unknown partner. The unknown partner turned out to be Cole’s longtime friend and former Universal Champion, Kevin Owens.

Adam Cole, while speaking to Ronda Rousey.com, revealed his thoughts after seeing Owens return to NXT. He said, “It broke my heart. Absolutely broke my heart. I and Kevin go way back. And that he had the nerve to go in there and turn on me is unbelievable.”

Afterward, Cole asked Owens for an explanation to which the former smiled and walked away. “It was bad. The friendship of Adam Cole and Kevin Owens has been on the rocks,” Cole declared.

Despite the ‘betrayal’, Cole respects Owens as a performer. Owens and Cole have known each other since their indie days, hence it is hard for Cole to completely disregard his old friend.

Despite getting beaten up really badly, Adam Cole could not hate Kevin Owens. Apart from being friends, Owens groomed Cole for the future.

He’s one of my really, really good buddies. He helped me out so much in Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. He really helped kick-start me to that main event level in those companies. I owe him a lot. So seeing his success in WWE, and then he was so excited when I made it here.

It was special because it was the first time I really got to get in there with Kevin in a WWE ring. It was awesome. I’m really glad it happened at that TakeOver,” Cole concluded.

One year has passed since then. Now, in a twist of time, Adam Cole has betrayed his Undisputed Era at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day. Owens, on the other hand, is feuding with Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown over the Universal Title. It is great to see how far the two friends have come.
