

When fans remember Hulk Hogan, they recall his ultimate babyface run in WWE in the 80s and a heel in nWo in WCW. However, Hogan’s in-ring capabilities were also according to the characters he played in the different eras.
The Hulkster’s moves were mainly like a heavyweight wrestler. Surprisingly, this wasn’t the case when he wrestled in Japan.

Hulk Hogan’s career in Japan is very well appreciated by the wrestling community. However, are you aware that the WWE Hall of Famer was much more flexible in NJPW during his prime?
The Hulkster could perform some cruiserweight moves. He mostly performed them in NJPW. A fan page ‘Pro-Wrestling Stories‘ shared a picture on their Facebook page of Hogan doing a high-flying move.
Moreover, they kept the caption, “High-Flyer Hulk Hogan delivering an enzugiri to Genichiro Tenryu.”

Hogan took several dates to wrestle on Japanese soil while he was a WWE superstar in the 80s. Therefore, he had two different characters which he performed on whichever continent he had a match scheduled.

Hogan’s character in WWE was of a hero, which didn’t require him to wrestle like a lightweight star. The Immortal One’s moves mainly consisted of punches, big boots, body slam, leg drops, and many more.
Once Hulk Hogan called the IWGP World title more important than the WWE Championship
In May 1993, Hulk Hogan wrestled the IWGP Champion The Great Muta in Japan even though he was the WWE Champion. However, in an after-match conference segment, The Hulkster stated the IWGP Title was greater than WWE Title in the business. Furthermore, this was the final years of Hogan with WWE before leaving for WCW.
Bruce Prichard on his podcast, Something to Wrestle shared what Vince McMahon’s reaction to this statement was. Prichard recalled Hogan doing that just for hyping the event for NJPW and it was for one night.

Moreover, Mr. McMahon didn’t think this segment was as a big deal for him as it was for NJPW event promotion. Additionally, it was a one-match deal.

Back in the day, internet was not always readily available. Therefore, whatever happened in Japan stayed in that country. Hence, the wrestler was able to play different characters in two countries.
