Will Ospreay made history a couple of nights ago at Sakura Genesis 2021! He defeated Kota Ibushi to become the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Besides his historic win, several fans and fellow wrestlers congratulated Ospreay, including WWE Superstar AJ Styles.

AJ Styles on Will Ospreay becoming IWGP Heavyweight Champion

The ‘Phenomenal One‘ is no stranger to the world of pro wrestling. He may be a WWE Superstar today, but before that, he ruled the squared circle in Japan and for various promotions across the globe. The decorated World Champion took to Twitter to congratulate Will Ospreay on his title win at Sakura Genesis 2021.

Styles revealed he felt like he was looking into a mirror after seeing Ospreay win the IWGP Championship. He then congratulated him on the same. Well, such subtle praise from one of the greatest IWGP Champions ever is a huge compliment!

The image Styles responded with had AJ Styles and Ospreay staring back at each other in a RevPro ring. You can see Styles holding the prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the picture, while Ospreay simply looks on.

An endorsement of such high standards, that too, from AJ Styles surely must’ve been a huge thing for the ‘Aerial Assassin.’ After all, it was the three-way match between AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels in TNA that made him want to become a pro wrestler. Today, he holds the same belt that Styles held before.

Not just AJ Styles, but Will Ospreay has added his name to the list of some top names in the world of pro wrestling. Ospreay is the 34th IWGP Champion.

Or you can say the second IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. For those unaware, NJPW unified the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championship to create the new IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

In fact, his impressive performances against AJ Styles, Kazuchika Okada, Marty Scurll, and others brought eyeballs to him. Then, he was signed with NJPW after some legitimate endorsements from Styles and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

It’s funny how Styles has been there for Ospreay since the latter’s early days. Today, Styles is in WWE, but we’re sure the two will cross paths in some capacity in the near future. Before you guess, no, Ospreay won’t come to WWE or will he? Only time will tell.
