‘Why?’: Fans Shocked as 29-Year-Old WWE Star Helps Trish Stratus to End a 17-Year-Old Streak Against Becky Lynch at Night of Champions

What started on the 10th of April this year, finally culminated into a match at WWE Night of Champions. After taunting Becky Lynch for over a month, Trish Stratus had the last laugh. By virtue of her win, Stratus lifted a 17-year-old curse but was helped by a newly drafted RAW female superstar.

The assist caught fans off guard, who took to social media to air their reactions.

Trish Stratus overcomes the Becky Lynch challenge, 17-year-old losing streak

Stratus had last won a singles match in 2006 against fellow WWE Hall of Famer Lita. Following her win at Unforgiven 2006, Stratus fought in just her third singles match at Night of Champions. In the previous two bouts, which took place in 2011 and 2019, the Canadian wrestler lost to Vickie Guerrero and Charlotte Flair, respectively.

This was also her first singles match since her clash with Flair at SummerSlam 2019.

Meanwhile, Stratus’ victory came on the back of interference from 29-year-old Zoey Stark, who made her RAW debut earlier this month. Stark hid underneath the ring and when the opportunity presented itself, hit Lynch to leave her vulnerable enough for Stratus to use the Stratusfaction and pick up the win.

Trish Stratus wanted to teach Becky Lynch a lesson

Breaking her three-year hiatus, Stratus returned to WWE on 22nd August 2022. The Damage CTRL stable interrupted her almost immediately. Several feuds later, the 47-year-old formed an alliance with Becky Lynch and Lita and took on Bayley-led Damage CTRL at WrestleMania 39. Stratus and her team won the match, but things started to go sour thereafter.

On April 10, Stratus paired up with Lynch during their Tag Team Championship defense against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. This was a forced change in the line-up as Lita sustained injuries during a backstage attack by an unknown assailant. During the match, Morgan and Rodriguez succeeded to strip the belts off their opponents’ waists and soon Stratus turned heel by attacking Lynch.

In the following week, Stratus cut a promo where she admitted plotting against Lynch

“I took out Lita. Yeah. And the reason I needed Lita out of the picture is because I needed it to be crystal clear that the person who screwed Becky Lynch out of her titles was me,” she said during her promo.

Stratus also revoked their friendship while declaring she won’t allow “Becky Lynch or any of you rewrite history”. This was continued as Stratus cut more promos, taking a dig at Lynch and ever her 2-year-old daughter. Though The Man later returned and avenged her humiliation, but Stratus had the last laugh at the bigger stage, albeit by an assist.
