Ever since losing the biggest match of his career, Cody Rhodes has been entangled in a feud with Brock Lesnar. The initial beating that Lesnar put Rhodes through shocked everyone in the audience. But it paled to comparison when put against their brutal and bloody match at Backlash, where Rhodes emerged victorious. But that wasn’t the end of the story.

Lesnar pulled Rhodes out of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament, giving him another beating. This time, Lesnar made sure to break Rhodes’ arm. At Night of Champions, Lesnar and Rhodes collided once again, with The American Nightmare having his one arm in cask.

The match between Rhodes and Lesnar started like a mouse and cat chase, but the Beast eventually got a hold of the American Nightmare. One belly-to-belly after another, Lesnar was gaining control over Rhodes and it looked like a done case. But then Rhodes used the titanium cast that the doctors wrapped his hand in to gain an advantage.

This gave many fans hope that Rhodes could still pick up the victory against Lesnar for the second time. While for a moment that looked likely, tables turned immediately when Lesnar caught Rhodes in the Kimora Lock.

But even then, Rhodes fought through it and stood on his two feet again, ready to finish the match with a Cross Rhodes. While he hit Lesnar with two of them, he couldn’t get the three count. This made Lesnar go for the Kimora Lock once again, and this time it was stitched in perfectly.

The second time was the charm for Lesnar as he made Rhodes pass out in his grip. But in the end, Rhodes got the fans’ love after fighting The Beast even at a disadvantage from the beginning and not tapping out in the end. Being able to hold on for more than five minutes while Lesnar broke his arm even further was the shining moment in the match.

While Rhodes will eventually take a break from wrestling to recover from his arm injury, seeing his enthusiasm for the business, it isn’t far-fetched to say that he will be challenging Lesnar when he returns. Especially after Lesnar’s six-word message, this trilogy seems the next step in Rhodes’ journey in WWE.
