A couple of months ago, WWE inked a multi-year licensing deal with the NFL. The wrestling promotion collaborated with one of America’s biggest football sporting leagues in August. As per the deal, WWE released commemorative championship titles for each NFL team and made them available for the fans to buy.

The project was highly successful and both promotions made quite a profit from it. That being said, recent reports reveal that after a successful partnership with the NFL, the Stamford-based promotion is looking forward to signing another deal with another of America’s top athletic leagues.

WWE inks a deal with NHL (National Hockey League)

After football, WWE has a similar deal in place with the NHL as well. According to a recent tweet on X by WrestleVotes, WWE, and NHL are set to release commemorative championship titles, building on the major success WWE had with the NFL.

The NHL championship titles will soon be purchasable through Fanatics in 2024. WWE released licensed championship belts for fans to purchase starting this year in August. But the promotion has been following the concept for a while now. The only difference is that they were being awarded to athletes in the past, and not sold as commodities.

WWE’s custom belt gifting tradition has been going on for a decade

WWE started the tradition of gifting custom-made championship belts to sports teams or athletes in 2013. It was a congratulatory gesture for teams or athletes who would win championships in any major events or leagues. The first recipient of the custom belt was David Ortiz of the Red Sox. He received the custom belt gift after his team won the World Series.

Recently, Liv Morgan on behalf of WWE gifted a Green Bay Packers Championship to Packers Running Back Aaron Jones at a recent game. Going back a little in the past, WWE sent a customized championship belt to Patrick Mahomes in February. It was after The Kansas City Chiefs secured a grand victory over the Philadelphia Chiefs at the Super Bowl LVII finals.

Last year, in 2022, Triple H sent out a customary title belt to the WNBA Champions. In September of the same year, The Las Vegas Aces beat the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA championship finals to win their first title.
